Town of Minto to Operate Essential Services Only - March 23, 2020

MEDIA RELEASE

TOWN OF MINTO TO OPERATE ESSENTIAL SERVICES ONLY.

The Town of Minto continues to assess and adapt to the ever changing circumstances surrounding the COVID19 pandemic. In an effort to keep public safety as top priority in this unique circumstance, as of 5:00pm on Monday, March 23, 2020 the Town of Minto will operate essential services only within the municipality.

Essential services such as fire, water, wastewater, road maintenance and minimal building services will be the only departments with staff remaining at the municipal office. The rest of the municipal staff are being required to work from home. Residents are still urged to call the municipal office, follow the appropriate phone prompts and leave a voicemail. Staff will return voicemails when possible. If residents know the email address of the person they need to reach; electronic communication is encouraged.

All mandatory building inspections will continue within the municipality. To book an inspection please leave a voicemail for Building Inspector, Amanda Nowell at 519-338-2511 ext. 249. All other building department activities are suspended.

Burn permits are still required and can be obtained by calling the municipal office, following appropriate phone prompts and leaving a voicemail. As a reminder, any type of burning other than cooking fires is not permitted in the urban areas.

In addition to recreation & culture facilities, playgrounds and public recreation spaces are now closed to the public. Residents are asked to abide by the posted signage and not congregate at playgrounds or outdoor recreation areas.

Residents are reminded that disinfectant wipes are not to be flushed down the toilet. The Public Works Department has seen an increase in wipes in the wastewater system. Wipes and paper towels can cause sewage back-ups, overflows and spills, which is not only a public health risk, but can cause expensive property damage as well.

Individuals who have questions or concerns regarding COVID-19 should contact Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health at 1-800-265-7293 or visit www.wdgpublichealth.ca/coronavirus.

The Town of Minto wishes to thank the public for their ongoing understanding during this unique circumstance.
