Northern Wellington Youth Connections Event
MEDIA RELEASE
3rd Annual Northern Wellington Youth Connections Event
Minto, April 3, 2019:
The Northern Wellington alliance of the Town of Minto, the Township of Wellington North and Mapleton Township are excited to announce the third-annual Northern Wellington Youth Connections (NWYC) Event. This event was initiated to help bridge the gap between youth and community stakeholders, such as local employers, organizations and services. The event focuses on providing youth with the opportunities to discover local career options that are available within Northern Wellington County first-hand by meeting with business owners and other employment professionals who live and work in Northern Wellington County.
All Grade 9 students from Norwell District Secondary School and Wellington Heights Secondary School are invited to attend the annual, day-long event which takes place on Tuesday April 30, 2019 during National Youth Week. The students will get to hear from keynote speaker Anthony McLean who is a Canadian motivational speaker who presents a powerful presentation on leadership. Students will then be able to connect with other students through activities, learn about RBC Future Launch and how young Canadians can prepare for the future and learn what skills will be essential for success, along with attend five sessions on entrepreneurship, the trades, mental wellness, local job opportunities and resume writing.
"The purpose of this event is to enlighten students about the career opportunities that are here and that they don’t have to leave Northern Wellington to access these opportunities," said Taylor Keunen, Marketing & Community Development Coordinator for the Town of Minto and adult ally for the Minto Youth Action Council. "We are excited for our 3rd annual event and look forward to spending the day learning and making connections with excellent local speakers and students!"
