Garbage and Recycling Services

This page provides a brief summary of the services provided by Solid Waste Services (SWS) that will be of interest to residents and businesses in the Town of Minto. (Please note the information below is subject to change).

Waste Facilities

The County operates five transfer stations and two landfill sites. Transfer stations accept small loads of waste and landfills handle both small and large loads of waste. The three waste facilities most regularly utilized by residents and businesses in the Town of Minto are:

County waste facilities provide a range of services including: garbage disposal, blue box recycling (no charge), scrap metal recycling, wood/brush chipping, large appliance recycling, tire recycling, and selected household hazardous waste drop-off for motor oil and oil filters, antifreeze, automotive and household batteries, propane cylinders and aerosol cans (no charge and limits apply). (Please note that wood/brush chipping and selected HHW drop-off services are not available at all waste facilities.) Curb/Roadside User Pay Garbage and Blue Box Collection

Curbside collection is provided in the urban areas of Clifford, Harriston, Palmerston and Minto Pines.

Yellow user pay bags are required in order to receive curb/roadside garbage collection. The yellow bags are sold in packages of 10. Large bags are $17.50 per package ($1.75 each) and small bags are $10 per package ($1 each). Yellow user pay bags can be purchased from the following locations:

The use of blue boxes is required to receive curb/roadside blue box collection. Contact SWS for a list of set-out requirements, and instructions on how to participate in the urban curbside programmes.

Garbage & Recycling collection day in Minto is Tuesday.

Blue Box Program
The County of Wellington's blue box program (no charge) is provided through curbside collection in urban areas, and through designated drop-off bins at all County landfill sites and transfer stations.
Each household is entitled to two blue boxes at no charge. Blue boxes may be picked up at any County landfill site or transfer station, or at your local municipal office. Contact SWS for the list of materials accepted in the blue box programme and preparation instructions.

Backyard Composters and Household Hazardous Waste Event Days
To help residents divert kitchen and yard waste from landfill, SWS sells backyard composters at cost ($30) year-round at all County landfill sites and transfer stations. Seven Household Hazardous Waste Events are held throughout the County each year to collect special wastes such as paint and chemicals. Contact SWS for more information.

Reuse Centre- Now Open
The Reuse Centre provides a "last" chance to give a second life to items that would otherwise be landfilled.
One person's waste is another's treasure!
The Reuse Centre may be utilized by residents and businesses in the County of Wellington.
Reuse Centre Location - Riverstown Landfill Site, 7254 Sideroad 5 West, Township of Wellington North. Open Tuesday - Saturday 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Item Drop Off:

At the scale house, let the attendant know you have an item for the Reuse Centre. Please note that the attendant has the discretion to not accept any item(s) for reuse.
Pay the tipping fee as assessed by the attendant.
Unload the item(s) and place in the Reuse Centre

Item Selection & Removal:
Fill out the information/waiver(IW) form located outside the Reuse Centre (must be at least 18 years of age to sign).
Fold the yellow copy of the IW form around the item tag(s) and place inside the mailbox. (The white copy of the IW form is yours to keep).
Customers are responsible for loading selected items.
Any item returned will only be accepted as a waste item, and charged the assessed disposal fee.
Items are FREE to pick up!

Alkaline Battery Recycling
Now available at all 14 County Libraries!
Drop your alkaline batteries - up to D size into the top of the battery tube at our local library branches in Clifford, Harriston and Palmerston.
Batteries may also be taken to the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Events and Selected HHW Depots.
