General Notes

Admittance Policy - Children under 10 years of age, not accompanied by a responsible person 12 years of age or older, are subject to a swim test. Children under 6 years of age must be accompanied by a responsible person 12 years of age or older.

Cancelled Lessons - due to unforeseen circumstances, a swimming lesson class may need to be cancelled by the Recreation Department. If a class has been cancelled more than once during a session, the lesson will be made up on the following Saturday provided pool time and space is available.

Missed Lesson - If you miss a lesson, we are unfortunately unable to make up that lesson.

Medical Concerns - All swimmers with a serious medical condition should inform the Lifeguards on the pool deck before entering the water.

Pool Foulings - Everyone is affected when the pool is fouled. Babies, tots and those without bowel control must wear snug fitting pool pants. All participants should avoid eating or drinking too much prior to swimming and those ‘under the weather' should stay home. Pool foulings result in pool closure.

Junior Lifeguard Club

This program provides children with the opportunity to learn lifesaving/ lifeguarding skills (blowing a whistle, throwing assists, stroke correction, etc.). Participants will be working on water training for friendly competitions and personal bests. The Junior Lifeguard Club builds self-esteem, confidence and friendships. It is serious fun!

Aqua Squirts (Synchronized Swimming) Camp

The Aqua Squirts camp is designed to help and strengthen swimming skills and build a child's self-confidence in the water. Skills are cleverly disguised in a theme-based format that focuses on fun, imagination and creativity in the water. Participants will learn a variety of basic synchro skills which will be used in the week end performance. Participants must have completed Red Cross Swim Kids Level 3 or equivalent.

Swim Team

The Minto Minnows Swim Team is a great way to improve your fitness level, build endurance, learn new skills and correct your strokes. Each participant is encouraged to strive for his/her personal best. Participants will also have the opportunity to compete in some friendly competition in swim meets held at various aquatic facilities throughout the area. Members must be able to swim one length of the pool (25m).

Bronze Medallion & Emergency First Aid/CPR B

This program teaches fitness, judgement skills and techniques for water rescue. If you are interested in becoming a lifeguard, Bronze Medallion is your first step towards achieving that goal. LSS manual, awards, exam fee and HST are included in the course price.

Bronze Cross

Candidates will learn the difference between lifeguarding vs. lifesaving, the principles of emergency procedures, teamwork and spinal injury management techniques. Bronze Cross is the final prerequisite to NLS and Lifesaving Society leadership levels. Course manual, exam fee and HST are included in the course price.

Aqua Fit

This multi-level non-impact class is great for everyone and is a full body workout. The class is led by an instructor and conducted in both the shallow and deep water. Aquafit is appropriate for all levels of fitness and allows you to work at your own pace with little impact.

Aqua Boot Camp

A great way to jump start your healthy lifestyle with an intense fitness training on land and in the pool! This program is targeted for ages 14+ and within this ten day session you will experience core training, endurance training and muscular fitness, through programs such as Aqua Kickboxing, Water Running, Aqua Abs, Aqua Muscle and Aqua Yoga, as well as on land endurance training.
